In Windows 7, Sql Server Express R2 with SSMS, the default database is the master database.

Not great. If you run a script and forget to specify the database, the master database could get updated.

To change the default database, in the object explorer:

Select Security, Logins
Right click your login and select Properties
Near the bottom, change the default database
