In the course of your work you have inumerable decisions to make.
You need to have a philosophical basis to your decision making, which will help you make good decisions.
Form a set of principles and unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, follow your principles.
Group your principles into categories, which take different levels of seriousness.
- Objectives - what you are trying to accomplish.
- Values - the things that are important to you that you must not violate in accomplishing your objectives.
- Requirements - the things you need in the way you want to accomplish your objectives.
- Laws - the statements on how things work. These should not be violated.
- Rules - the methods of how to do the things you are doing. Do not violate these unless you have a good reason to do so.
- Guidelines - follow these until you find a better way and then change your guidelines.
